In a topsy turvy night of football, United fans' hopes were raised up and then dashed in the cruelest way possible - unsurprisingly, everyone else thinks it's ruddy hilarious

If there's anything that football fans can enjoy en masse, it's a horrible, crushing setback for Manchester United.

Cruel as it is, The Red Devils are never likely to get much sympathy from rival fans when they suffer disappointment out on the pitch. They've certainly suffered this evening, crashing out of the Champions League after a pulsating 3-2 defeat away at Wolfsburg.

Unsurprisingly, the people of Twitter are now having a field day at the expense of United's devastated support.

It isn't just the end result which is tickling Twitter trolls everywhere; it's the nature of the defeat, too. For a brief moment, United looked like they might qualify as they equalised against Die Wölfe while PSV Eindhoven fell behind to CSKA Moscow. However, United then conceded almost immediately while PSV went on to win with ten men.
