Kogi community calls on #Dangote to fulfil its CSR } vanguard

Oyo community in Lokoja Local Government area of Kogi State has called on the Federal Government to help address the ecological problem affecting the community. The community also cried out to the President of the Dangote Group of Company, Alhaji Aliko Dangote to fulfill its part in the agreement involving its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, to the community, noting that most of the environmental and ecological disasters facing the community were caused by the mining activities of the company.

Aliko Dangote Spokesperson of the community, Taofiq Isa said those involved in the CRS, of the company have sabotaged the venture, neglected their responsibility and rather enriching their purse at the detriment of the community.
Isa said: “Can you believe that there is no motorable road in the community, no electricity in the area since the company had been mining from the community.

We are not against the company making its billions every day from the cement they produce from the coal mined from the community, we are just saying that they should fulfill their responsibility to the community they are milking dry, whose activities have turned to environmental disaster. “Rather than listen to our plights, those in the CSR department have refused to listen to us or fulfill their agreement to the community. Rather, they are intimidating and harassing us.

The environmental disaster facing the community is more than Lassa and Ebola virus combined together”. Isa who is the Coordinator, Oyo-Iwaa Youth Council, said the community is crying out now because all efforts to reach Aliko Dangote to present their plights to him directly have been blocked by the same cabal in the CSR of the company. “We don’t want it to get to a point that the youths will rise against the company, but we can no longer guarantee their over-stressed silence on this matter.

The only thing that can calm their nerves is if the company fulfills their side of agreement and meet the demands of the community.” He however, tasked the Federal Government to look into their ecological crisis, as well as compel it on the Dangote’s company to rise to their responsibility. Aside Obajana community where the cement company is located, Oyo, Iwaa and Oshokoshoko are the other host communities to the company, with the coal mineral mined directly from Oyo village.
