CAF Fines Nigeria Over Crowded Stadium – The Nigerian Football Federation has been fined $5000 by the Confederation of African Football.
The fine was for a lack of security and crowd control during Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Kaduna back in March. Over 40,000 spectators were packed in the 15,000 capacity stadium, with fans going to the extent of sitting on the floodlights. CAF issued the fine and a warning, with a repeat of the incident to attract even more stricter punishment.
Nigeria was not the only club fined by the governing body, with Sudan and Morocco fined $5000 for the use of flares during the match. DR Congo were also fined $10000 for crowd trouble and a fan entering the stadium.
