#ManchesterUnited suspect device revealed by Greater Manchester Police to be a hoax - Mirror

Manchester United's Premier League clash against Bournemouth has been abandoned after the discovery of a suspect package at Old Trafford.

At around 2.40pm an announcement was made for security personnel to invoke 'operation red code' and it soon became apparent the Stretford End and Sir Alex Ferguson Stand were being evacuated.

Police later confirmed a phone was discovered attached to a gas pipe in the North West Quadrant, with bomb disposal experts and fire engines racing to the scene.

A controlled explosion was carried out once the stadium had been cleared.

The Premier League insist the game will be played as soon "as soon as practically possible".
