Everton youngster set for new deal
Everton are expected to hand Tom Davies a new long-term contract after his first-team breakthrough this season, report the Liverpool Echo.
The 17-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current deal but is set to be offered fresh terms to reflect his emergence at Goodison.
Davies made his Premier League debut against Southampton in April before turning in a man-of-the-match display against Norwich City on the final day of the season.
The West Derby midfielder is certain to be a permanent fixture in the Blues first-team next term under Roberto Martinez’s replacement and will be offered a new contract on the back of that.
Davies only signed his first professional deal with Everton in September but the club are keen to tie him down.
Martin Skrtl moving on?
There’s likely to be changes-a-plenty at Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to retool his squad in his own image.
One player who could be set for the exit door is defender Martin Skrtel, who fell down the defensive pecking order at Liverpool towards the end of the season.
And Turkish Football believe that the centre-back could be on his way to Besiktas, who would be able to offer Skrtel Champions League football next year after winning the Turkish league this season and are looking to strengthen their defence.
Blackburn release eight players
Managerless Blackburn Rovers are the latest team to announce their retained list, with no less than eight players being sent on their way.
Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, defenders Tommy Spurr and Matt Kilgallon, midfielder duo Lee Williamson and Chris Taylor, and forwards Simeon Jackson, Chris Brown and Nathan Delfouneso are now all free agents.
This number could rise, with a number of players being told that they will be given a final decision once a new manager has been appointed.
"He has a huge and genuine affection for the club"
Next up to join in with the mutual backslapping is Bhoys’ chief executive Peter Lawwell.
“Brendan is a highly-sought after manager and we are pleased that we have been able to bring such a high calibre individual to Celtic.
“He has a huge and genuine affection for the Club. I know Brendan feels privileged to be named Celtic manager and I know he will give us everything he has to be successful at Celtic. Above all, he will bring huge experience, knowledge and ability to the role.
“We wanted to bring one of the biggest and best names to the Club to match our own aspirations and those of our supporters - we believe, in appointing Brendan, that we have done this.
“We have appointed a special manager and we are sure he can bring some special times to Celtic.”
Rodgers will be unveiled in front of the media on Monday afternoon at 4pm, before meeting fans at the stadium at 6pm.
