Anthem Of The Seas: 8-Year-Old Boy In Critical Condition After Nearly Drowning On Ship

This is SO sad! A Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas Cruise ship was suddenly forced to turn around off the coast of New York after a child was reportedly found in a pool onboard. The 8-year-old was taken to a hospital where he is now in critical condition after almost drowning!

An eight-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on June 30 onboard the Royal Caribbean Ship “Anthem of the Seas.” The child, who is now under doctor’s care at Staten Island University Hospital North, reportedly went without oxygen for a whopping 18 minutes! But while the boy did survive the horrific accident, he is apparently on life support. Find out the details of this tragedy below.

“The ship altered its course and sailed back towards Bayonne, New Jersey for a medical evacuation. Royal Caribbean’s Care Team is providing support to the guest’s family,” Royal Caribbean revealed of the accident in its statement.

And according to the cruise line, the boy was treated by the ship’s medical team “after an accident in one of the ship’s swimming pools, but required additional medical attention.”

The 8-year-old was found in the swimming pool on the ship at around 8 p.m., according to CBS New York. Officials also revealed to the station that the child had gone at least 18 minutes without oxygen. So horrible! The ship was about 10 miles offshore from Queens, New York when the child was discovered, and while the crew awaited the arrival of the FDNY and NYPD, Royal Caribbean’s own medial team tried to treat the boy, according to their statement.
