Fans don’t understand how Iggy Azalea, 26, can use black culture to influence her music, but still not vocalize her support of the Black Lives Matter movement. In light of the recent injustices the black community is facing throughout the United States, fans believe she needs to speak up, pronto!
Iggy is being called out for a couple of things: appropriating black culture, and not standing up for black people. The rapper has faced criticism in the past for behavior perceived as racist, and this failure to not support Black Lives Matter is not looking good for her. In just the past week, two innocent black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, were fatally shot by police.
And in Dallas, Texas, both police and Black Lives Matter protestors were shot by snipers; many were killed.
Massive protests have been going on throughout the country, from Atlanta, to Chicago, to NYC, to Oakland, all in the name of justice for the black community. And Twitter is calling out white celebs, like Iggy, for staying silent when they’re clearly influenced by black music and culture to cultivate their image! Take a look:
Don't get how @IGGYAZALEA can appropriate and use black culture in her music and style then not stand for #blacklivesmatter— Aria Broomand (@Ariacentral2000) July 9, 2016
