'EVERY PARENTS' NIGHTMARE' Druggy teen pleads guilty to carjacking a vehicle with two young kids including a BABY inside

A DISTRAUGHT mother was faced with ‘every parents’ worst nightmare’ when a carjacker drove off with her two children in the back of the car.

As Martin Cawley drove off the woman’s terrified 12 year old daughter dramatically leapt from the car leaving her 11-month-old baby brother in the back seat.

Miraculously the youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, only suffered minor grazes after the dramatic escape.

Cawley, 19, jumped in the Vauxhall Astra which was left with the keys in the ignition by the mother who popped into a shop in Enfield, north London.

He drove off not realising the two children were in the back of the car until the girl opened the door rolled out into the road.

Cawley later dumped the small tot still strapped in his car seat on a doorstep three miles away.

The incident was described as “every parents worst nightmare” today as Cawley pleaded guilty to kidnap, abduction and aggravated vehicle taking.

The 27-year-old mother had been on her way to a wedding with her children when she stopped by a shop to buy a snack at 12.45pm on Saturday, July 2 in Kempe Road, Enfield, north London.

The Metropolitan Police released dramatic CCTV footage of the brazen carjacking which shoed the terrifying moment the 12-year-old bridesmaid kept from the moving car.

She then ran towards the shop where her step mother was screaming, ‘the baby, the baby’.

He was eventually dumped on the doorstep of a couple in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, a 15 minute drive away, where a member of the public cared for the baby

Today at Wood Green Crown, Cawley also admitted two summary charges, one of driving without a licence, and one of driving without insurance relating to the same offence.

Prosecutor Nick Cribb said: “The way I would describe this case as every parents worst nightmare, and for this parent it must be doubly so because two of her children were taken.”
