Alex Jones, 39, announces she's expecting her first child with husband Charlie Thompson... five months after revealing fears she'd never become a mum

Alex Jones has confirmed she's expecting her first child.

The One Show host announced the news in a tweet posted on Friday, gushing that she and insurance broker husband Charlie Thompson 'feel so lucky'.

Earlier this year Alex, 39, spoke of her fear that she may have left it too late to become a mother. 

Writing on Twitter, Alex wrote: 'Charlie & I are very happy to confirm that we're expecting a baby in the new year. Feel so lucky that we're about to become parents. Xx.' 

The presenter also posted on Instagram, sharing a photo of a babygro with the words Coming Soon and the same message alongside the hashtags: '#andbreatheout #newbabyalert'.


The 39-year-old found out after she got married last year that her own mother went through early menopause at the age of 43 – making her realise that the 'clock is truly ticking'.

Back in April Alex revealed, while speaking at the Fertility Health Summit, the moment her mother had told her she had been through the menopause early, explaining they were talking about an upcoming documentary on fertility which Alex has worked on:

‘I was having a conversation with Mum and my sister Jen about the show and mum dropped it really casually into conversation.

‘She said “Yeah because I started the menopause at 43” and she was cutting Victoria sponge at the time. I said “What do you mean?” and she said “Well I started going through the menopause at 43”.'
