'They won't be able to cope without me': Father 'left notes revealing why he stabbed his wife and three children to death in their home before killing himself'

A father suspected of murdering his wife and three young sons is thought to have left notes explaining why he 'killed' his family.

Alan Hawe is believed to have stabbed his fellow schoolteacher wife Clodagh, and their sons Liam, 13, Niall, 11, and six-year-old Ryan at their home in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan.

He then hanged himself.

In one chilling message, Mr Hawe is thought to have explained how his family 'would not have coped without him'.

The bodies of the three boys were found in their bedrooms while Hawe and his wife were discovered downstairs on Sunday.

The 41-year-old teacher, who was a deputy principal at Castlerahan National School, is understood to have left a number of notes and documents around the house prior to the tragic discovery.

He is reported to have left messages for relatives, revealing he was under pressure at work.

According to The Sun, police searching the home have found a hatchet, believed to have been used in the attack, with forensics also removing a number of knives.

It has also been revealed that the last words 13-year-old Liam Hawe sent from his phone before his death on Sunday were 'From evil comes good.'

His mobile phone is now being examined by police and officers believe the cryptic SMS message, the recipient of which has not yet been revealed, could provide an insight into the events.

The alarm was raised shortly before 10.45am on Sunday when a relative is understood to have contacted the regional Garda Headquarters in Co Monaghan.
