Gregg Wallace encourages fellow victims of child abuse to come forward ....

...... following darts legend Eric Bristow's derogatory comments on the abused footballers scandal

Gregg Wallace became emotional on Tuesday's Loose Women as he urged victims of child abuse to speak out.

The MasterChef host, 52, who revealed he was abused as an eight-year-old in his 2012 autobiography, was asked by the panel for his thoughts on darts ace Eric Bristow's comments regarding the victims at the heart of abused footballers scandal.

Gregg labelled the sportsman's tweets, which saw him call victims 'wimps' for not 'sorting out' their abusers in later life, 'silly'.

He began recounting his own experience, which caused him to become tearful.

'I imagine my experience is typical, you feel guilty, you feel like you've played some part in it, and of course, you haven't,' explained the star.

Rather than feel guilt for the abuse, Gregg urged young victims to come forward.

He said: ‘You have to speak up. You’re not in trouble. You haven’t done anything wrong. You’re a child. You’re not part of this, it’s been done to you.’

Gregg added that many abusers were known to their victims and trusted by the community in which they operated, rather than a random 'man in a mac down an alley'.
