A mum has forked out £1,300 on surgery to get 'cute' dimples like her 11-year-old son.
Beauty blogger AJ Weir, who lives near Lutton, Lincolnshire, had craved the cherubic facial features since she was a little girl.
The 44-year-old said she thought her friends with dimples were able to use their adorable grins to get their own way.
She began investigating dimple surgery – called dimpleplasty - around 10 years ago because she loved the features so much.
And now, she has undergone the hour-and-a-half-long cosmetic procedure to get dimples on both sides of her face.
A decade ago, this kind of operation was quite rare in the UK.
So it wasn’t until September this year that AJ - whose son, Morgan, has a dimple on his right cheek - finally had the controversial procedure.
Undeterred by the cost, or potential risks, of the purely cosmetic surgery, she also ignored her critics, who said it was a waste of money.
She said: “For a long time, I wanted dimples.
"I don’t know what it is exactly, but I think they are really cute.
“If somebody has dimples, I will try to stick my finger in their face. It’s really weird, but I just love them. I see them as a sign of being cute.”
Dimples can be one-sided - like Morgan's - or they can be symmetrical. They are commonly inherited, as a dominant genetic trait.
Despite AJ loving them, possibly thanks to popular dimple-owners such as Kate Middleton and Cheryl Tweedy, natural dimples are actually a flaw in the facial structure.
