Armed police officers descended on a primary school which had to be shut all day yesterday after a man threatened to kill pupils in a mass shooting.
Officers spent the day there as a precaution and are attempting to trace the man who made the threats and is believed to be responsible for a second incident earlier this week.
Officers surrounded the Dukesgate Academy in Little Hulton, in Salford, Greater Manchester, after a man made a phone call before the start of classes and threatened to stage an attack.
Parents were told by text that the closure was due to a 'shutter and boiler failure' but the school later said this wasn’t true and admitted it was due to 'threats', the Manchester Evening News reports.
After the phone call was made on Thursday morning the school was shut down for the safety of staff and pupils.
It follows an incident, believed to involve the same man, on Wednesday where threats had been made towards some specific pupils.
It is understood the man has not yet been traced and no arrests have been made.
However, the threat was treated with the utmost seriousness with armed police deployed and the school evacuated and closed.
It’s expected it will re-open open today, with Greater Manchester Police sending 'specialist officers' to speak to and reassure parents.
