Benin Youths Protest Alleged Demand For Another Kingdom By Ogiamien

Thousands of Benin youths, under the aegis of Benin Nation Congress (BNC), on Tuesday carried out a peaceful protest along major roads and streets of Benin city against one Arisco Osemwengie, who is alleged to be attempting to carve a new kingdom from Benin to be headed by Ogiamen, which Osemwengie was said to be claiming.

The protesters, carrying several placards and a mock coffin, which they said, signifies death for the enemies of the Oba of Benin, noted that the real Ogiamen of Benin Kingdom has never been declared dead even though he is supposed to be a palace chief and, therefore, cannot be replaced.

But when contacted on phone Tuesday, Osemwengie said he cannot comment on the matter because it is in court.

“That is a matter that is before the Supreme Court and I don’t like commenting on an issue that is before the Supreme Court. So, I cannot comment on it.”

Speaking to officials in Government House where the protesters were received by the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, President of BNC, Ayamenkhue Edokpolor said.
