Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera and James Wilson among 15 players released by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a new contract to extend his stay at Old Trafford, while clearing out 15 names during a period of sweeping change.

United have announced their squad retention list for the 2019-20 season, showing widespread changes as players have been released from the club.

In what is the Red Devils' biggest ever summer exodus, the likes of Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera and James Wilson have all been ushered through the door.

Herrera will join Paris Saint Germain on a free deal, while United opted not to take up the option to trigger clauses of extension in Valencia and Wilson's deals.

No further comment has been made regarding Mata's future at United, but the club confirmed a new deal has been offered to the 31-year-old.

At under-23 level, new contracts have been offered to midfielder Aidan Barlow, goalkeepers Alex Fojticek and Paul Woolston, plus Italian defender Luca Ercolani.

United are now expected to stage an assault on the transfer market and rebuild a squad with a focus on youth and potential.

Matthijs de Ligt remains a prime target for United, while the club have also now been linked with a move for Leicester duo Harry Maguire and James Maddison.

On Friday the club confirmed the transfer of highly-rated youngster Daniel James from Swansea, who will arrive in a £17million deal and officially become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing for the club.
