Lampard is favourite to replace Sarri in the Chelsea hotseat.

For the 10th time in 15 years Chelsea look set to launch the search for a new permanent manager.

Maurizio Sarri's fractious relationship with the club and its fans looks to be coming to an end with the Italian expected to leave the club for Juventus following the departure of Massimiliano Allegri.

That will leave yet another vacancy at Stamford Bridge and it seems there are seven men in the running to take on football's poisoned chalice. Sportsmail assesses the main candidates, what they can bring to the job and how likely their appointment is.

Frank Lampard

The people's choice. Appointing Chelsea legend Lampard could help lift the malaise around the club and appease the fans who have struggled to embrace Sarri and his methods.

Alongside Derby assistant Jody Morris, Lampard would not be affected by the club's seemingly impending transfer ban and would be more than happy to play young players.

He narrowly missed out on promotion in his first season as a manager with Derby and has experience of coaching two of the club's leading starlets in Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori.

Odds: 4/7

Massimiliano Allegri

Anybody who manages to appoint Allegri this summer will be getting a bona fide winner and that trait will make him appeal to Roman Abramovich.

Juventus have dominated Italian football under Allegri's leadership for the past five years and he has built a squad in Turin filled with world class players and experienced heads.

The only question mark against Allegri is his performance in Europe. He could never translate domestic success to the Champions League and that could count against him.

Odds: 7/1
