Real Madrid to step up chase for midfield star... but Manchester United 'ready to offer new long-term contract'

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Paul Pogba and hope to secure a deal before the Premier League's August 8 transfer deadline.

The Spanish giants have been long-term admirers of the Manchester United midfielder, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.

But they are keeping their options open for a new midfield dynamo until the end of the La Liga window on September 2, according to reports in Spain.

'There is a plan for Pogba... and a Plan B', claims the front page of AS.

Pogba has joined up with his United team-mates on their pre-season tour of the Far East despite stating his intention to leave earlier this summer.

He played in Saturday's win over Inter Milan in Singapore. However, United appear set to ward off interest in their prized asset.

They are hopeful of convincing Pogba to reject Real Madrid's interest by offering him a new long-term deal at Old Trafford, according to Metro.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his backroom staff have been encouraged by Pogba's attitude during the pre-season tour.

His agent Mino Raiola claimed earlier this month that Pogba was 'in the process' of leaving the club he rejoined to much fanfare in 2016.
