Lizzo twerks in a gold lamé bikini on New Zealand beach in defiant response to Jillian Michaels

Lizzo was in a defiant mood on Thursday as she twerked on a picturesque New Zealand beach, just days after personal trainer Jillian Michaels questioned why fans were celebrating her body.

The voluptuous performer’s physical appearance was recently questioned by Australian star Michaels, who felt her larger size was having a negative impact on her health.

But Lizzo hit back by pulling on a skimpy gold lamé bikini and letting her hair down with a choreographed twerk on New Zealand’s Piha Beach.

Taking to Instagram, the 31-year old shared a short video of herself and a group of backing dancers performing the energetic dance move to Saweetie hit My Type.

Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, also shared an array of body positive snaps in which she showed off her curves while touring the stunning beach with her small entourage.

In one, the star - who recently completed seven tour dates across Australia and New Zealand - shows off her body in front of a rock face, while others capture her reclining on the sand close to the shoreline.

Captioning the shots, she wrote: 'I love you. You are beautiful. You can do anything. (Repeat).'

Lizzo appeared to be responding to Jillian Michaels after she questioned the body positive movement associated with plus-size celebrities including Lizzo and model Ashley Graham.

Reflecting on Lizzo's impact, Michaels - a former star of Australian body transformation show The Biggest Loser - told M2DM by BuzzFeed News that she was perplexed by the emphasis on her weight.
