Lockdown: Wike issues new directives to COVID-19 taskforce in Rivers

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State has directed officials of the Local Government Task Force to identify hotels operating during the lockdown for demolition, following the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country.

The Governor gave the directive on Thursday while inaugurating the Rivers State coronavirus Local Government Task Force at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

He said “From tomorrow, move into any hotel that is operating, identify it and we will bring down the hotel.

“I have the political will and those people who disobey will face the consequences.

“Nobody should come from outside to compound our problems and import this invisible killer. We will not accept that.

“We should not allow what is happening to continue, we don’t have the capacity to face it and there will be no support from any quarter.

”Hotels with existing guests should send their lists to the governor’s office for scrutiny and approval.”

The Governor also stated that members of the Rivers State COVID-19 Local Governments Task Force will be on the payroll of the State Government.

He appealed to the Task Force officials to enforce key aspects of the State Government’s directive on COVID-19 in all the Local Government Areas.

DAILY POST recalls that the Rivers State government ordered an auction of all cars impounded during the lockdown in the state.
