Ex-Governor’s aide laments insecurity in Bauchi

A former Senior Special Assistant on Security to former Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, Alhaji Imamu Tukur Ahmad, on Thursday lamented the recent spate of killings and assassinations of prominent persons in the state.

Ahmad, in a press release made available to journalists in Bauchi, warned that the unfortunate happenings may escalate if government fails to take decisive actions.

The former governor’s security aide, who now serves as a legislative aide to the chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Halliru Jika, condemned the recent assassinations and kidnappings in the state.

According to him, Bauchi State has witnessed killings of a member of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Musa Mante Baraza; a director at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Engineer Hassan Sabo Jama’are, who was stabbed to death last Sunday night.

He added that an elder brother of Governor Bala Mohammed, Adamu Mohammed, was kidnapped some months back by some unknown gunmen.

He informed that another innocent citizen of the state, Malam Aminu Kobi, was recently killed by unknown persons, adding that the corpse of the deceased was later found at Gudum Sayawa area of Bauchi metropolis.

Ahmad stated that Bauchi State was plagued by insecurity leading to the killings and kidnappings of citizens, lamenting that these are happening in a state that prides itself as a pearl of tourism.

According to him, there is no way tourism will strive in the state in view of the current spate of insecurity.

“Bauchi State has recently been plagued by insecurity; culminating into incessant kidnappings, assassinations of innocent people in cold-blood, ruthless killings of citizens for ritual purposes.

“Bauchi State is a state that represents tourism but how can tourists visit if there is an alarming rate of crime?” he stated.

He, however, condemned what he termed nonchalant attitude to security measures in the state.

“As a former security assistant to Malam Isa Yuguda, the former Bauchi State governor (2007-2015) and also now, being the security adviser to distinguished Senator Halliru Dauda Jika (Dokajin Bauchi), representing the good people of Bauchi Central and chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, I must condemn in every strong terms the nonchalant attitude and lukewarm approach to security measures,” Ahmad stated.
