Nigerians React As Instagram Apologises For Flagging #EndSARS Post As 'Fake News'

 Instagram has apologized for incorrectly flagging content in support of #EndSARS and marking them fake news.

Though many feel the damage has been done already by the social media company.

In the aftermath of the Lekki shootings by military men, many Nigerians took to social media to show solidarity of the victims, and #EndSARS protesters.

It came as a shock to many when Facebook began to flag the #EndSARS content, and marked them fake news.

Many took to Twitter to complain about the development as Mark Zuckerberg was called out by many Nigerians.

In reaction to the startling development, Instagram has now apologized for the error, as they admitted to letting people down at that time of need. Their statement read;

Quote
“Yesterday our systems were incorrectly flagging content in support of #EndSARS, and marking posts as false. We are deeply sorry for this. The issue has now been resolved, and we apologize for letting our community down in such a time of need.”

In reaction, Nigerians have now said the apology is a waste of time, as the damage has been done already by the social media company. See some reactions below;

Quote
@SmokeUnn: Keep Ur system to Ur self. Na excuses day: MTN network failure due to faulty inverters, Instagram systems acting up, Channelstv- NBc directives, Governor- forces beyond our control, Cctv company- there was power outage not 4rm us, Electricity company- bcos of Curfew.

@BitrusWuni: I have uninstalled my Instagram but because of this I will install it back and delete my account first before I delete it. Thank you!

@xeenarh: I hope by *resolved* you mean that you’ve disengaged and stopped working with the person responsible for flagging people’s post as false. Because your posts specifically said it had been reviewed by “independent fact checkers who say the information has no basis in fact”

@Jesutodudu: LOL. It was all administrative. Not “an issue”. IG and Facebook always finds it hard making right decisions on sensitive, appropriate or inappropriate contents. Why is it always so hard? We’ve seen what we need to see on Twitter. Away you go IG. Bye!
