“The Grammys remain corrupt” – The Weeknd after nomination snub

Canadian star, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye aka The Weeknd, has reacted to his snub from the 2021 Grammy Award nomination list.

He said the award remain corrupt.

Many were left shocked after The Weeknd failed to receive any nominations for the 2021 awards for his latest album, ‘After Hours’.

“The Grammys remain corrupt,” he wrote on Twitter. “You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency.”

The Grammys said they “empathised” with his disappointment but that some “deserving” acts missed out every year. Responding to The Weeknd’s tweet, in a statement provided to Rolling Stone, Recording Academy Chair Harvey Mason Jr. said,

“We understand that the Weeknd is disappointed at not being nominated. I was surprised and can empathise with what he’s feeling.

“His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration. Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists.

“All Grammy nominees are recognised by the voting body for their excellence, and we congratulate them all,” Mason Jr. concluded.

After Hours is the biggest-selling album of the year so far in the US, while Blinding Lights is the longest-running top 10 hit in US chart history.
