A 32-year old Lupane man has landed himself in trouble with the law after he allegedly attempted to rape a 78-year-old granny.
iHarare established from a local publication The Chronicle that the police arrested Bright Bhukanana Moyo of Gudubhu village after he allegedly pounced on an elderly woman whose identity cannot be revealed for ethical reasons, last Thursday as she walked through a bush.
Moyo was not asked to plead to attempted rape when he appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku.
It is the States cases that on the 18th of February 2021, the accused met the complainant as she was walking along a path in a bush near Gudubhu village.
Like a predator, Moyo is alleged to have pounced on the elderly woman and wrestled her to the ground.
After he wrestled her to the ground, Moyo allegedly pinned the helpless complainant to the ground in an attempt to rape her.
Fearing for her dear life, the elderly woman screamed for help, and a neighbor (whose name has also been concealed) who was also in the vicinity rushed to the scene.
Upon seeing the other woman approach, Moyo is alleged to have fled from the scene.
The two women managed to positively identify Moyo and reported the matter at the nearest police station leading to Moyo’s arrest last Friday.
Moyo was remanded in custody to Thursday for plea recording.
