In a tragic development, an enraged 88-year-old Mutoko woman allegedly killed her 99-year-old husband last week after he refused to help her with some household chores.
Enesia Chivhinge struck Saidi Daiton with some pieces of bricks after he reportedly refused to help her carry some cowpeas from their field.
Chivhinge was arrested after Daiton died a few days later due to the injury he sustained during the attack.
Mashonaland East Provincial Spokesperson Tendai Mwanza confirmed the tragic incident which occurred at Tamuka village in Mutoko on Thursday.
According to the police report, on the day of the incident, the two reportedly had a misunderstanding after the now-deceased allegedly refused to help the accused carry some cowpeas from their field to their home.
This did not go down well with Chivhinge who allegedly picked up some farm brick pieces and struck her now-deceased husband several times on the left hand and both legs.
An informant, Tafadzwa Chivhinge, told the police that when he got home that day, the now-deceased told him he had been attacked by his wife.
After physically examining the degree of his injuries, Chivhinge advised the now deceased that he needed medical attention which he refused.
Daiton’s condition is said to have deteriorated 2 days later. Worried about Daiton’s condition, Chivhinge hired a motor vehicle to ferry him to Nzira Clinic.
According to ZTN News, Daiton passed away on the way to the clinic at around 1800 hours.
Following his death, Chivhinge made a report at ZRP Mutoko leading to Enesia’s arrest. She is currently detained at ZRP Mutoko.
Meanwhile, Daiton’s body was ferried to Murewa Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
