A woman has been jailed after keeping her mum’s corpse for a year so she could claim her benefits.
Hope Ruller died in October 2013, aged 93, of natural causes.

But Mary Kersting, her 60-year-old daughter who lived in the apartment above, never called authorities to get medical care or take away the body.

Instead, Kersting kept cashing her mother’s social security and pension cheques, totaling nearly $14,000 (£9,300), while the body rotted in the downstairs apartment.
The police discovered Mrs Ruller’s corpse at her home in Gloversville, Upstate New York, on December 29 when they visited to check in on her.
