#Chibokgirls could prove demise of #Buhari government

Parents of the kidnapped school girls sit outside a compound during a meeting in Chibok, Nigeria. At least 11 parents of the more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls will never see their daughters again.
Failure by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to rescue more than 200 girls the Boko Haram kidnapped two years ago could see Nigerians vote the administration out of power, a security think-tank has projected.

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) argued the failure by the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the minors kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Borno State, played a part in the demise of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last polls.

The South African-based ISS pointed out Buhari “made it clear” during his campaign trail he would do everything in his power to return the Chibok girls to their families.

However, a year ago, Buhari was quoted as saying he could not promise the girls could be found.

“Fine words, except the girls are still nowhere to be found,” said Simon Allison, ISS Consultant.

He said Boko Haram, although weakened by a sustained government onslaught, which began in the last months of Jonathan's government, remained a potent threat.

“Having already helped take down one Nigerian president, could the failure to find the Chibok girls damage another?”

The next elections are due 2009.
