This follows a directive by Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase to all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and FCT/State Commands Commissioners of Police to arrest anyone found hawking petrol in kegs.
The prolonged fuel scarcity has seen a rise in the black market sales of petrol, with hawkers now commonly found on major roads with their kegs by their side.
The IGP cautioned fuel attendants against selling into kegs, adding that the the improper handling and storage of the products by the black market sellers were causing fire outbreaks.
