Shamed footballer #AdamJohnson 'burst into tears' as soon as he saw 'girlfriend' Stacey Flounders when she visited him in #prison - MailOnline

Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson broke down in tears when former girlfriend Stacey Flounders visited him in prison for the first time, it has been reported.

Johnson, 28, is said to have sobbed during the hour-long meeting at Armley Prison in Leeds, where he is serving a six-year sentence for child sex offences.

It comes amid claims that Miss Flounders, 26, has forgiven Johnson, the father of her child, and has agreed to rekindle their relationship once he is released from prison.

Miss Flounders dramatically revealed that they had split halfway through his trial.

A source told the Sun on Sunday that Johnson 'burst into tears' when he saw Miss Flounders, who visited the prison with his father David and sister Faye on Friday.

'They obviously still care for each other greatly and it was probably too much for him to take after the reality of his six year sentence', the source said.

The trip is believed to be the first family visit to see Johnson since the former Sunderland winger was imprisoned last month having been convicted of sexual activity with an underage girl.

Miss Flounders' presence prompted speculation she had decided to give the sex offender a second chance. A source told the Sun on Sunday that she has 'forgiven him' and 'feels sorry for him'.

'She has said they're going to give the relationship another shot when he gets out of jail, and he could be out in less than three years.'

The source added that their 14-month-old daughter, Ayla Sofia, is already asking for her father.

Miss Flounders accompanied Johnson to Bradford Crown Court through most of the trial. She gave evidence to the court, insisting she would 'remain friends' with her ex-boyfriend.

She wiped away tears as she described how Johnson had told her 'everything' about kissing a 15-year-old girl when he returned home after being questioned by police.

Asked if he talked about other things during their heart-to-heart, she said: 'The other women that he cheated on me with.'

Miss Flounders was then asked by Orlando Pownall QC, defending, if the sportsman named the women.

She replied: 'Just one. He wouldn't tell me the other names.' When asked how many there were, she said: 'Quite a few.'

Miss Flounders told the jury she had initially stuck by Johnson after his arrest because he was 'honest' with her and she knew he was 'telling the truth'.

But, when asked about the future of their relationship, she said: 'We're just going to remain friends.'

In two further confirmations of their split, Miss Flounders dramatically admitted to the jury that she saw no future in their relationship. She showed no emotion as the verdicts were returned.
