'I THINK YOU'RE FANTASTIC' Saved By The Bell star Dustin Diamond makes a public apology to former co-stars - TheSun

IT’s probably a few years too late, but Saved By The Bell star Dustin Diamond has apologised to his former co-stars.

The troubled actor appeared on The Dr. Oz Show where he was quizzed by the TV doc, saying sorry to his ex-castmates for revelations made in his 2009 ‘tell-all’ book Behind The Bell.

Dustin looked regretful as he was questioned by Dr. Oz, and given an opportunity to acknowledge his mistakes.

The 2009 book claimed to lift the lid on sordid goings-on behind-the-scenes at Saved By The Bell, the kids’ TV show which ran from 1989 until 1993.

Dustin played Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers alongside Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Lark Voorhies, Tiffani Thiessen and Elizabeth Berkley, on the show’s four season, going on to appear in spin-offs The College Years and The New Class.

Dustin’s tome claimed that the show’s actors were having sex with each other and using drugs on the set of the hit show.

However, though he said sorry, he avoided taking full responsibility for the book and its allegations, saying it was penned by a ghostwriter.

He also said he was taken advantage of, explaining to Dr. Oz: “Oddly enough, it’s doing interviews like this and getting the word out there. This is my best weapon for repairing the damage that was caused by things that were done by people who took advantage of me and the situation I was in at the time.”

“As it turns out, the general public doesn’t realise, I didn’t write the book. I had a ghostwriter,” he added.

Dustin then turned to the camera to address his former co-stars, saying: “I will say, guys, I think you’re fantastic, working with you has been just one of the icons of my life and I’m sorry that this has taken advantage of me, the book and other situations I’m sure we’ll talk about here. But I’m sure that you’ve experienced downfalls, as well, in your time and I’m still loving you guys.”
