Shocking moment VW driver knocks down man walking beside horse-riding wife

Dramatic footage shows the moment a driver ploughs into a couple out with their horse on a narrow country lane.

Lynne Hallam, who is riding the horse, can be heard yelling in disbelief as the car barrels down the road towards them.

The vehicle brakes and appears to come within inches of the horse, named Jess, and Ms Hallam, but hits her husband who was walking beside them.

The driver stops and gets out of the car to apologise but Ms Hallam, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, yells at him: 'Why did you try to kill me?'

The incident happened on Saturday evening and was posted to social media.

Ms Hallam posted the clip online with the caption underneath: 'This happened last night. Luckily Jess is ok physically, not sure about mentally.

'Hubby is ok, thankfully just a cut arm, could have been so much worse.'

Ms Hallam added: 'We know the culprit, he grew up in the village and he was on his phone.

'Will the police be interested in this? I wanted to call them straight away but I did not have a phone on me.'

The video begins with the camera filming the horse as it moves straight ahead on a quiet, narrow country road.

In the distance it appears to be sunny, with the trees and woodland providing a cover of shade over Ms Hallam and her husband.

Ms Hallam and her husband can be heard conversing as the car begins to approach them from the opposite side of the road.
