Emre Can raging over brutal axe from Juventus' Champions League squad

Juventus midfielder Emre Can has been left 'shocked and angry' after being left out of the Juventus Champions League squad by manager Maurizio Sarri.

Speaking at Germany's training camp ahead of Euro 2020 qualifying, Can said: 'Last week, the club promised me something else.

'Yesterday the coach called me and told me in less than a minute that I was not in the squad. I am shocked and angry.'

Can, who joined Juventus on a free transfer from Liverpool in June 2018, was left out alongside striker Mario Mandzukic.

Can's fury comes after a mixed first season in Serie A, in which he was unable to establish himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet despite making 37 appearances.

The arrival of Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal and Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain have further hampered his prospects this season.

Can was linked with a summer move to PSG to act as a replacement for Rabiot, though Sarri is understood to have told the German to remain and fight for his place with Juve.

As the transfer window entered its final weeks, Juve were also reported to have offered Can to Barcelona in a part-exchange request for Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

The reigning Italian champions face Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotive Moscow in Group D.
