Jose Mourinho Returns To Benfica As Head Coach, 25 Years After

Jose Mourinho has returned to Portuguese side, Benfica as coach until 2027. The Only One is returning to a club he first cut his managerial teeth 25 years ago. Jose who was assistant to Sir Bobby Robson and later Louis Van Gaal at Barcelona for four years, left in 2000 to chart his own course, signing a 6 months contract with Benfica.

There was a lot of doubts for the 37-year-old who hinged his contract on then club President, Azevedo's re-election. His first game was a September 23, 2000 0-1 loss to Boavista. Mourinho was promised a 2-year contract should Azevedo be re-elected, sadly he lost and the Portuguese resigned after 11 games (6W 3D 2L) following Board room crisis.

With over 1000 games and many trophies to back it up, Football Heritage returns home.

Benfica heads to Stamford Bridge on September 30 to meet one of his former clubs in the UCL league stage.
