Lagos to enforce single-use plastics ban from July

 

The Lagos State Government will begin full enforcement of a ban on single-use plastics (SUPs) starting July 1, 2025.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, made the announcement via his official X account on Monday.

Wahab said the policy follows an 18-month strategic engagement with stakeholders, including manufacturers and marketers.

“From July 1, 2025, @followlasg will commence full enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUPs). We’ve been intentional and strategic with 18 months of dialogue, engagement and transition. Now, it’s time to act,” Wahab disclosed.

Lagos State seeks N3 trillion in public-private partnerships to combat coastal erosion

 

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to raise over N3 trillion through public-private partnerships to combat the growing threat of coastal erosion along its 180km shoreline.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the Commissioner, the state is scaling up the use of groynes, rigid structures built out from shorelines to control erosion, but the financial burden of implementing the project at full scale exceeds the state’s current capacity.

Jihadists in northeastern Nigeria are surging — and using social media to spread the word of their campaigns and recruit fighters.

At least 100 people were killed in the new wave of jihadist attacks in April alone, as the governor of Borno, the epicentre of the violence that has raged since 2009, said the state is losing ground to armed groups.

At the same time, apparent jihadists and their boosters on TikTok were flaunting rifles, grenades and stacks of cash, according to easily accessible videos reviewed by AFP that same month.

They broadcast live in joint videos with accounts run by men preaching anti-Western ideologies in a style reminiscent of the videos released by deceased Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in the early days of the 15-year-old insurgency.

Quitting Nigeria won’t shield Meta from legal obligations, says FCCPC

 

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has fired back at Meta Platforms Inc, warning the tech giant that its threat to exit Nigeria does not erase its legal responsibilities or liabilities under the Nigerian law.

Meta earlier today said it “may be forced to effectively shut down the Facebook and Instagram services in Nigeria in order to mitigate the risk of enforcement measures.”

Meta’s warning came after it lost a legal bid last week to overturn a ₦220 million fine imposed by the FCCPC for violations of data protection and consumer rights laws.

NNPCL reduces fuel price to N910 per litre

 

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has reduced its retail price of Premium Motor Spirit.

DAILY POST correspondent observed on Saturday that NNPCL retail outlets along Kubwa Express Way, Zone 4 Abuja, and Gudu, all in the Federal Capital Territory, have adjusted their fuel pump price to N910 per litre from N935.

This showed that the state-owned firm reviewed its petrol price downwards by N20.

DAILY POST reports the fresh price drop in NNPCL retail prices has resulted in motorists trooping to NNPCL filling stations as of Saturday.
