Adam Johnson was arrested on suspicion of possessing extreme animal pornography.
It can now be reported Johnson was arrested last year over bestiality material allegedly found on his laptop.
Durham Police confirmed he has now been released from his bail in relation to this matter and no further action will be taken.
Johnson's phone and laptop were seized following his arrest over sexual activity with his 15-year-old victim on March 2 last year.
He was then re-arrested on suspicion of possessing animal porn.
Officers also found Johnson had visited a website called 'Nice Young Teens' which featured pornographic images but was not illegal.
Pre-trial hearings heard how police also found medicines in a safe when the former England international was arrested at his home in County Durham, which indicated he may have been suffering from sexually transmitted infections.
