People are sending this man's grandchildren death threats all because of a heartbreaking photo

Since a granddaughter shared this heartbreaking image of her 'Papaw', hundreds of thousands of people have shared the story online



The picture of a grandfather who cooked for his grandchildren has broken hearts online - after his granddaughter revealed she was the only one who turned up.

But there has been a darker side to the outpouring of emotion as people have actually hit out at the absent grandkids online.

Kelsey Harmon shared this image when she went for dinner at her 'Papaw's' house, and revealed that there were five empty chairs around the dining table.

Her grandfather's tartan tablecloth and his sweet salt and pepper shakers are made all the more heartbreaking by his facial expression as he eats his own burger, eyes turned down towards the table.

Kelsey wrote: "Dinner with papaw tonight... He made 12 burgers for all six grandkids and I'm the only one who showed," she wrote.

She added the words "love him" with a crying emoji, which mirrored the reaction of hundreds of thousands of people online.

After the Oklahoma-based college student put the message online last night, the message was liked on Twitter more than 206,000 times and retweeted more than 125,000 times .

The emotional outpouring from those who have commented shows that there is universal affection for the hopeful grandpa.

"I know I don't know you or papaw but can you tell him that we (the internet) love him?" one person replied to Kelsey's tweet.
But some went too far, threatening Kelsey's cousins who hadn't shown up.

She posted: "Papaw is ok guys I promise & he loves all grandkids equally, plz stop sending my cousins death threats everything is ok!!!!"

Kelsey later posted a message explaining that Papaw was fine.

"He knows about his new-found fame and is just as shocked as me," she added.
