Mum's tears for missing son found safe in #Spain: 62-year-old breaks down as she learns she will be re-united with her boy after six years - TheSun

A MUM sobbed as she heard she will be reunited with her son who disappeared six years ago.

Matthew Green was found alive and well in Spain more than half-a-decade after he vanished from his home in Sittingbourne, Kent.

He told his devastated parents, Pauline and Jim, he was visiting a friend in Mile End, London and never returned.

The couple have since spent years fearing the worst for their 32-year-old son, who was found by social services in Spain.

Due to data protection laws the family were told they could not get in touch with their son, or even see a photo.

Pauline yesterday revealed she was contacted by a medic in Spain who claimed to be treating their beloved son - and invited them to visit him.

He told her he was in a mental health unit in the European country and was refusing to help.

The family revealed Matt had been wrongly accused of rape before he disappeared, which left him in a spiral of depression.

He started to drink, smoke cannabis and stopped socialising.

Eventually he was diagnosed with psychotic paranoia and vanished two years later.

Pauline said: "This person texted me last night and it was a Spanish number. He or she said they needed to contact me.

"They said 'I am trying to send an email, but it's not successful. I sent him my email address and heard nothing, so I went to bed.

"Just after 5am I thought I would see if this person had tried to contact and that's when I saw this email."

The mum informed close friends and family on Facebook about the update.

She said: "Because a majority of you have been with us from day one I feel it only right to let you all know that Matt has been found in Spain.

"I cannot put into words how we feel, ecstatic, elated, all our Christmases come at once are a few of the things that spring to mind."

The devastated mum, who has been refused photos of her son, told of her frustration at not being able to contact him due to the data protection laws.

She added: "We are no way nearer to seeing him, talking to him or anything else, due to his human rights and Data Protection.

"I have written him a letter which I have emailed to the Foreign Embassy / Consulate in Madrid but they will not tell me if Matt is in receipt of my letter.

"All of this is very frustrating, as you can imagine, but until Matt reads my letter and phones us there is absolutely nothing we can do."
