The senators after the end a closed-door executive session said the hike is in the overall interest of the country.
The session was presided over by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki was absent due to his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Ekweremadu, who read the report of the executive session, said the senators sympathize with the Nigerian people over the hike.
He urged the Federal Government to start the implementation of the palliative measures contained in the 2016 Budget to ease the hardship of the subsidy removal on Nigerians.
