Genius dad invents modern version of popular kids' street game - without the traffic trouble

An inventive dad has created a modern version of popular children's street game kerby after busy roads made it difficult to play it with his daughters.

Like many parents, Paul East has fond memories of playing the traditional game when he was growing up in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

The game, also known as kurby or curbsy, involves two people throwing a ball across the street aiming at the opponent's kerb.

A ball and two people were the only things required, reports Manchester Evening News.

But with today's roads - even quieter ones - so full of cars, Paul's attempt to play the game with his two daughters - Millie, 10, and Sienna, nine - was hampered by constant interruptions.

Which sparked an idea to create his own version of the game - with transportable base units to use wherever there is space.

The 36-year-old launched his 'Kurby' product at the The Toy Fair in London last month and is now in talks with a major toy retail supplier and an education supplier for UK and Ireland.

He said: "I used to play the street game for hours on roadside kerbs in Manchester as a young boy.

"The idea came about when I first played the game with my two girls on the street.

"The next day they loved it that much they wanted to play on their own, but they couldn't because of cars and safety so I made a back garden version out of wood.

"I realised there was nothing out there on the market, so I patented and registered the design."
