Jeremy Clarkson jokes disappointing A-level results aren't always bad - as he boasts about lavish lifestyle

Jeremy Clarkson has told A-level students not to worry as he jokes about his own success despite receiving disappointing exam results.

The former Top Gear star - who has been filming his new show The Grand Tour with fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond - tweeted a message of support to those who are receiving their grades on Thursday morning.

Taking to Twitter as teenagers across the country were waking up to find out their marks, he wrote: "If your A level results are disappointing, don't worry.

"I got a C and two Us, and I'm currently on a superyacht in the Med."

It comes after it was revealed record numbers of pupils were expected to get top grades in their A-levels as results were published this morning.



Exam entries to maths and further maths in England are up again, with the former now overtaking English as the subject with the highest intake.

And as they award by far the most A* grades, this could lead to an increase in A* grades overall, says Professor Alan Smithers, director of the Centre for Education and Employment Research at Buckingham University .

But students were bracing themselves for greater “volatility” in this year’s results because of changes to the curriculum, a teachers’ union has said.

Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT union, said that teachers and students had struggled to get to grips with new syllabuses which were brought in this year and could have impacted results.
