The Olympic gold medallist was filmed visiting the ward with a huge bunch of flowers in Team GB colours red, blue and white, saying: "I promised you I would be back with a gold medal."
The hockey star, from Merseyside, had dedicated her medal to her grandma Dolly, who suffered a stroke just five days before the final.
The 27-year-old posted a picture of her nanna holding her medal on Twitter alongside the caption: “Unfortunately had to miss The One Show tonight, however the only one I had to show this medal to was my nanna.”
She added: “And of course a huge thank you to all at Clatterbridge Hospital for looking after her #TheRealHeroes.”

The athlete is seen crying in a video of the emotional encounter as she enters the hospital ward, in the Wirral, to greet her nan.
Tearfully, she can be heard saying: "Hi nanna, it's Samantha.
"I promised you that I would come back with a gold medal and I am so, so glad you can see it now.
"You probably should should have one of these yourself after what you've been through."
She asks her nan how she's feeling, to which Dolly smiles: "Better for seeing you."
The pair then have an emotional kiss and a cuddle as her nan marvels at the impressive medal.
