A police manhunt has been launched for the attacker at King's Clippers hairdressers in Chertsey, Surrey.
Officers were called to the barbers in Guildford Street at around 1pm - to reports of a violent incident taking place involving an altercation between two men.
The row apparently spilled out into the road before before continuing outside on the pavement.
One man was left seriously injured - while the other is said to have fled the scene.
One witness told GetSurrey: “There were two men having a fight [in the barbershop].
"One of them picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed the other guy in the neck with them while he was in the chair.”
An unnamed man, said to be in his 30s, was rushed to hospital with injuries - including a "puncture wound" to his head - but which are not thought to be life threatening.
A police cordon has been set up around 75metres around the hairdressers - as officers continue to question any potential witnesses.
Access to about 10 other shops was closed off as they investigated.
Police have this evening confirmed that they are looking for a man in connection with the incident.
He is described as being in his 40s, around 5ft 10in tall and of a medium build - with ginger hair and a ‘chin strap’-style beard.
