Chelsea's £57million problem… Jorginho joined to be the architect of 'Sarri-ball' but the midfield metronome is now losing his ally

A video uploaded to YouTube two weeks ago recently passed the one-million mark for views and it is titled: 'Here's Why Jorginho has ZERO assists for Chelsea.'

No, it does not simply show the midfielder sending pass after pass sideways.

Instead, it shows him dinking balls into the feet of forwards who then failed to apply the necessary finishes, from Gonzalo Higuain to Alvaro Morata to Olivier Giroud.

To Jorginho's credit, some of the subsequent misses are embarrassingly bad.

Higuain skies shots, careless control lets Giroud down, and one can only imagine how Chelsea will cope now that Eden Hazard has joined Real Madrid.

Despite the well-watched footage, creating chances and splitting defences is not Jorginho's forte.

The Italian ranked first for passes made by any Premier League player last season – he played 3,119 while the next nearest was Virgil van Dijk on 3,037 then Aymeric Laporte on 2,998.

In terms of chances created, he ranked 76th.

Jorginho's skillset suited the style of play that Maurizio Sarri wanted to see and that was why he quickly became the poster boy of 'Sarri-ball'.
