Arsenal sign 18-year-old Brazilian starlet Gabriel Martinelli for £6m

Arsenal have completed the signing of 18-year-old Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli for £6million.

The youngster is one of the most promising talents in his homeland and recently earned a call up to the training squad before the Copa America.

He will join up with the Gunners for pre-season and fans will look forward to seeing him in action for the first time, particularly as he says he bases his game on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Martinelli scored 10 times in 34 games for Sao Paulo based side Ituano after making his debut at the tender age of 16.

He was voted as the 2019 Best Newcomer and also a member of the 2019 Team of the Year for the Campeonato Paulista - the football league for the state of Sao Paulo.

It is claimed that Martinelli is the first player to be recommended to the club by Edu, the club's impending technical director.

Plenty of top clubs were interested in his signature but it is Unai Emery's men who secured the deal.

He told the Arsenal website: 'I am a player who gives his all at all times, I play as a team and always looking to win games and win trophies.

'I model my game on Cristiano Ronaldo, he is a player who works hard, pushing himself to the next level. Always in the run for titles and individual trophies.'
