Barcelona sign 16-year-old English striker Louie Barry from West Brom

Barcelona have signed the highly sought-after 16-year-old striker Louie Barry.

The youngster turned down the offer of a professional contract with West Brom to continue his football education with the famous Spanish side.

PSG were also in the hunt for one of the most promising starlets in Europe but Barry chose Barcelona.

Barcelona tweeted: 'Louie Barry joins Barca. The 16-year-old English striker comes from West Bromwich Albion and will play in the A Youth Team.'

They also shared a picture of the 16-year-old holding up a Barcelona shirt and shaking hands with staff at the academy.

Barry was at West Brom from the age of six and was tipped to make the step up to their first team.

But the quality of his performances for Albion and England have caught the attention of scouts from across Europe.

Last year he scored 10 goals in five games for England U15s during a tournament in Italy.

Barcelona will pay the Baggies in the region of £235,000 in compensation.
