Liverpool have made contact with agent of Nicolas Pepe amid summer scramble

Lille president Gerard Lopez says Liverpool have made contact with Nicolas Pepe's agent over a potential summer move.

Negotiations are apparently underway for a player who scored 22 goals and assisted a further 11 as the club finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 last season.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with Pepe, but Liverpool appear to be leading the chase for the Ivorian.

His comments come despite earlier reports that Liverpool had reassured Lille they had no interest in signing Pepe.

Lopez told RMC Sport in France: 'I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club.

'Liverpool have players in those positions and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.

'I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.'

Lopez said that Bayern Munich enquired about Pepe, 24, during the winter transfer window and that Lille had already received two offers for him before the Africa Cup of Nations.

He added: 'We had two offers before the Africa Cup of Nations.
