Manchester United missed out on signing Tottenham new-boy Tanguy Ndombele

Manchester United missed out on new Tottenham signing Tanguy Ndombele as they wanted more time to resolve Paul Pogba's future.

Tottenham secured the signing of Ndombele from Lyon on Tuesday on a six-year deal for a club-record fee of £65million.

According to L'Equipe, when Ndombele arrived in London with his representatives he hadn't made up his mind whether to sign for Tottenham.

The report indicates that United requested for Ndombele and his representatives to give them more time so they could sort out Pogba's situation, with the latter having been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after stating that he wanted a new challenge. Real Madrid are among the sides that have been linked with Pogba.

Juventus were close to agreeing a deal with Ndombele last month but the Italian club also asked for more time to finalise the transfer, which allowed Tottenham to take advantage.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino proceeded to persuade Ndombele to join the club, with the 22-year-old being informed that he can retain his 'free' style of play but that his final pass must improve.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, convinced Lyon to do the deal, with Ndombele's representatives pleased that they had managed to make the France international one of the highest paid players at the club.
