Sporting Lisbon expect Manchester United bid for Bruno Fernandes 'in the coming hours'

Manchester United are preparing an imminent bid worth £70million for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to O Jogo.

The midfielder enjoyed a stunning campaign in Primeira Liga and scored 31 goals in all competitions for the club he joined in 2017.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for midfield reinforcements and wants the Portugal international's goalscoring threat.

Fernandes has a £90m release clause in his contract with the Portuguese side but United are trying to negotiate a lower fee in the coming days.

The Old Trafford club have already added £50million full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Swansea's Daniel James for £17.5m this summer.

They will now hope they can push on with a huge deal for Fernandes, whose form saw him play a key role in his country's Nations League success.

He started as they beat Holland 1-0 in the inaugural final of the competition in June, and to date has 13 caps and one goal to his name.

Fernandes has enjoyed a productive pre-season already, scoring against Rapperswil-Jona and St Gallen.

The report goes on to explain that Fernandes has been made a top target and his signature isn't dependent on the future of Paul Pogba.

The France midfielder has flirted with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with both Juventus and Real Madrid keen to bring in the World Cup winner.

Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff is another possibility but Old Trafford chiefs have reportedly been left stunned by his £50m price tag.
