Virgil van Dijk has named Liverpool team mate Roberto Firmino as the greatest player he has played with, in a surprising choice over star forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio ManΓ©.
The 28-year-old defensive titan has been at the heart of Liverpool's success since joining Jurgen Klopp's side in a £75million move in 2018, commanding the back four to the Reds' sixth Champions League title at the end of last season.
Van Dijk is accompanied by an array of talent in a Liverpool side setting its sights on a first league trophy since 1990. However, when asked by talkSPORT who he believed was the greatest player he has played with, he made a surprising choice.
'I'm going to be a little bit biased and say one of my team-mates; I would say Roberto Firmino,' he said.
The Brazilian forward has been a linchpin for Klopp's attack, providing a platform for the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane to thrive.
And while Firmino hasn't matched the goal tallies of last season's joint golden boot winners Salah and Mane, the 27-year-old has provided a generous contribution of 49 goals in 139 appearances since arriving on Merseyside from German club Hoffenheim.
Meanwhile, the Dutch international has also named Manchester City's Sergio Aguero as the most difficult opponent to mark in the Premier League.
City's all-time record goal scorer has proved a constant thorn in many a Premier League defender's side since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
