Impeachment: Agboola Ajayi To Sue Ondo Assembly, Police, DSS, Chief Judge

LAGOS / AKURE – The embattled deputy gover­nor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has perfected plans to commence legal process­es to forestall his possible impeachment by the state House of Assembly, Daily Independent has gathered.

Credible sources informed Daily Independent that bar­ring the unforeseen, the state Assembly, the Nigeria police, Department of State Services (DSS), as well as the state’s Chief Judge may be served with the necessary court processes latest on Tuesday, next week.

The delay till next week, it was gathered, is linked with the options being weighed by Ajayi who is said to have insisted on filing the court process outside Akure, the Ondo State capital.

 

This development is com­ing on the heels of uncon­firmed reports that the Ondo State House of Assembly had been allegedly induced by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to commence impeachment proceedings against his dep­uty who dumped the All Pro­gressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Demo­cratic Party (PDP) earlier in the week.

“The deputy governor is going to court to stop his im­peachment. That is certain, but he is afraid he may not get justice, so he is consid­ering filing the case outside Akure, the state capital,” our source said.

Also on Wednesday, Ajayi said police escorts in his se­curity team had been alleged­ly withdrawn by the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami.
 
Babatope Okeowo, Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, disclosed this in a statement made available to Daily Independent in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Part of the statement reads: “The Ondo State dep­uty governor, His Excellen­cy, Agboola Ajayi, wishes to raise the alarm over the withdrawal of his police escort on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bolaji Salami, thus putting his life, family and staff in danger.
