Stop Quarrelling In Public — NEF To Northern Governors

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has advised governors of the northern region to exercise restrain and stop quarrelling in public stressing that it sets a bad precedence for people in the region.

The NEF Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who spoke during a joint meeting with governors, traditional leaders and federal government delegation in Kaduna said when governors disagree on issues of security, it causes panic among citizens.

Baba-Ahmed said, “Governors are leaders and when governors disagree so openly, on the way forward either on security or how to deal with banditry it causes more panic among our people. We beg our leaders, there must be a way to resolve issues among governors without making some of these things public.”

He urged the governors to work with their colleagues in the southern part of the region to ensure that northerners resident there are protected while assuring that the NEF will pray for the success of the governors to take the region forward.

He however added that the NEF would not fail to criticize leaders in the region where they feel things are not properly handled adding that, “when we do that, it doesn’t mean we are on the opposite side, it just means that the north has a lot of assets and all the assets need to be put to use one. There is no need for ethnicity or religion because the entire north is in trouble.”
